a seminar on Rothbard’s The Ethics of Liberty. Dr. Wanjiru Njoya delivered five lectures: “Natural Law and Reason,” “Private Property as the Foundation of Liberty,” “The Right to Self-Defense,” “The ‘Just War’ Doctrine,” and “The Declaration of Independence and ‘States’ Rights.’” In these talks Dr. Njoya connected the major themes of The Ethics of Liberty to current events and to the destructive ideologies that are attempting to place egalitarianism and state power above individual liberty. Each lecture was followed by an engaging discussion session in which participants deepened their understanding of the philosophical foundations of liberty and the practical implications of Rothbard’s ideas.
As a surprise bonus, Dr. David Gordon and Judge John V. Denson each gave a short personal talk. Dr. Gordon shared memories of his friendship with Murray Rothbard and stories about how Rothbard corresponded with other scholars like Robert Nozick. Judge Denson discussed important antiwar books and answered questions about past US presidents and their wars.
Dr. Njoya’s lectures were recorded and will become a new Mises Academy course. The Mises Academy is growing. Our course offerings are expanding, and we have more students enrolled than ever before. Stay tuned for more in-person seminars like this one!
