Mises Wire

A Message from Jeff Deist

I want to make sure you saw the letter Lew Rockwell wrote a few days ago. Won’t you take a few minutes right now to respond and make a donation?

Lew’s letter talks about the tremendous sacrifices Ludwig von Mises and Murray Rothbard made in pursuit of truth and ideas. Both put intellectual freedom ahead of money, status, and academic career climbing. Both were brilliant and supremely accomplished. Both were shunned by Ivy League economics departments despite their obvious credentials.

Yet today both Mises and Rothbard are better known around the world than their long-forgotten contemporaries. Why is that? Why is interest in the Austrian school growing, while not one in a thousand Americans can name Arthur Burns, the former Fed Chairman?

It’s because the critics of Mises and Rothbard were wrong. The supposed intransigence of both men was in fact principle — a principled commitment to the right ideas. And the right ideas can’t be suppressed forever.

The Mises Institute shares their commitment to the right ideas. Their mission is our mission. And just as Mises and Rothbard did, we face detractors and opposition at every turn. We need your help to keep fighting the bad ideas of statism and pseudo-economics.

Do you own stocks, real estate, or other assets that have gone up in value? Don’t sell them, but instead donate them directly to the Mises Institute. You may be able to pay no capital gains taxes, yet take a tax deduction from their full current fair market value — regardless of what you originally paid. What a remarkable win-win! And we accept donations of precious metals and cryptocurrencies as well.

If you already donated in response to Lew’s letter, thank you! We deeply appreciate your support and strive to spend every dollar carefully and frugally.

If you haven’t had a chance to donate yet, please make your most generous contribution today. Take this opportunity to thwart the IRS with a charitable deduction and support freedom at the same time!

All of us at the Mises Institute wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and a peaceful, prosperous 2019. Thank you for everything you do to support our mission of promoting freedom, peace, and real economics.

What is the Mises Institute?

The Mises Institute is a non-profit organization that exists to promote teaching and research in the Austrian School of economics, individual freedom, honest history, and international peace, in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises and Murray N. Rothbard.

Non-political, non-partisan, and non-PC, we advocate a radical shift in the intellectual climate, away from statism and toward a private property order. We believe that our foundational ideas are of permanent value, and oppose all efforts at compromise, sellout, and amalgamation of these ideas with fashionable political, cultural, and social doctrines inimical to their spirit.
