October Rothbard Giveaway Offer

“The financial power elite can sleep well at night regardless of who wins.”
—Murray N. Rothbard

To celebrate the Year of Rothbard, the Mises Institute is giving away a different Rothbard book—for free—each month through December 31. Request additional copies—up to five copies per order, one order per person—to share with friends and family.

October’s offering is Murray Rothbard’s Wall Street, Banks, and Foreign Policy, in which Rothbard applies razor-sharp elite theory to the twentieth century. In the words of Justin Raimondo, “What we have here is a sweeping and compressed history of 20th-century politics from a power elite point of view.”

This book is Rothbard at his best, a compelling blend of his economics, history, and political theory. Here Austrian economic theory is applied not only to central banking and money creation, but also to realpolitik. Rothbard introduces readers to the crooked financial and political systems crafted in the twentieth century and to the rising financial elites who harnessed their power, such as J.P. Morgan and John Rockefeller.

From the Rothbardian lens, what began as a battle between titans became a cabal during World War II. As Rothbard notes, that conflict could “be considered, from one point of view, as a coalition war: the Morgans got their war in Europe, the Rockefellers theirs in Asia.”

Originally published in 1984, Wall Street, Banks, and Foreign Policy traces the rise of the American empire—the creation of the Council on Foreign Relations, the World Bank, and the Trilateral Commission. It is a critical exposition of the levers of the global political order we still live under today. The names may have changed, but the axis of the American warfare state and financial power remains alive and well. This is why this book makes such a great starting point for anyone not yet familiar with Rothbard’s major works.

Get your free copies by before October 31. And look for our next Rothbard giveaway offering on November 1.

What is the Mises Institute?

The Mises Institute is a non-profit organization that exists to promote teaching and research in the Austrian School of economics, individual freedom, honest history, and international peace, in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises and Murray N. Rothbard.

Non-political, non-partisan, and non-PC, we advocate a radical shift in the intellectual climate, away from statism and toward a private property order. We believe that our foundational ideas are of permanent value, and oppose all efforts at compromise, sellout, and amalgamation of these ideas with fashionable political, cultural, and social doctrines inimical to their spirit.
