Over the weekend, Mises Institute Associated Scholar Antony Mueller passed away. As noted by our friends at Mises Institute Brasil, where Mueller held the title of Senior Fellow, he “built a career marked by academic rigor, independent thought, and exemplary dedication to the study of economics, social philosophy, and the Austrian School.”
Dr. Mueller’s career included teaching positions throughout the United States, Latin America, and Europe. He was the author of numerous books, including A Primer on Austrian Macroeconomics at Palgrave Studies in Austrian Economics. Many of his publications featured a radical defense of anarcho-capitalism versus various forms of state idolization.
An anecdote illustrating his influence was the lasting popularity of his content on sites such as Mises.org. The Spanish translation of his article “4 Reasons Why Socialism Fails,” a pointed response to the growing popularity of “democratic socialism” in the West, was consistently among the most popular articles among our translated content, serving as an excellent introduction to one of the most important intellectual battles of our times.
During 2020, he published several important articles targeting the Great Reset touted by the World Economic Forum with devastating rigor. Mueller had a special ability to properly recognize the real threats posed by contemporary political trends and weave sound economic logic, historical context, and a fierce commitment to individual liberty in a way that made him a consistently important and engaging intellectual.
His legacy will live on in the example he set for the students who had the fortune of learning from him and in the countless people around the world who were inspired by his published works.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all those touched by his example.
