UK Newspaper Boys to be Taxed

According to the UK Telegraph, newspaper boys have been escaping the tax system, and that this will no longer be tolerated. They will be required to open bank accounts, if they do not have one, so that they can comply with tax regulations.

A Revenue spokesman denied it was mounting a campaign to target newspaper delivery boys and girls to see whether they were escaping the tax net. He said: “Nothing has changed. Employers are under an obligation to complete the form for all employees irrespective of age. Everybody is liable to tax from the cradle to the grave.” [...] The company, which owns 17 daily newspapers in Britain and has more than 300 titles in its portfolio, has also told schoolchildren and the rest of its distribution staff that they will have to open bank accounts as a condition of their employment.

The Mises Institute is a non-profit organization that exists to promote teaching and research in the Austrian School of economics, individual freedom, honest history, and international peace, in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises and Murray N. Rothbard.

Non-political, non-partisan, and non-PC, we advocate a radical shift in the intellectual climate, away from statism and toward a private property order. We believe that our foundational ideas are of permanent value, and oppose all efforts at compromise, sellout, and amalgamation of these ideas with fashionable political, cultural, and social doctrines inimical to their spirit.
