A toy store owner was recently visited by Homeland Security agents. The crime? Selling a toy for which the design might have been a violation of a patent. Turned out that it was not. What does this have to do with homeland security? Let Virginia Kice, a spokeswoman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement explain it:
“One of the things that our agency’s responsible for doing is protecting the integrity of the economy and our nation’s financial systems and obviously trademark infringement does have significant economic implications,” she said.
