Protecting the Most Vulnerable

In a Wall Street Journal article “GOP Targets Medicaid, Food Stamps” Senator Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), top member of the Democratic caucus on the Senate Budget Committee, is quoted as saying, “I will do everything in my power to make sure we pass a budget that does not harm the most vulnerable Americans”. It would be nice if this concern for the most vulnerable Americans was real and would transfer over to the minimum wage issue where real harm is done to the most vulnerable. If he was truly concerned and consistent in his beliefs, Senator Sanders would be a leading advocate for repealing, not raising, the minimum wage.

What is the Mises Institute?

The Mises Institute is a non-profit organization that exists to promote teaching and research in the Austrian School of economics, individual freedom, honest history, and international peace, in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises and Murray N. Rothbard.

Non-political, non-partisan, and non-PC, we advocate a radical shift in the intellectual climate, away from statism and toward a private property order. We believe that our foundational ideas are of permanent value, and oppose all efforts at compromise, sellout, and amalgamation of these ideas with fashionable political, cultural, and social doctrines inimical to their spirit.
