Memo to Alan Greenspan

From Paul Kasriel’s commentary:

Zimbabwe’s Money Supply – Enquiring Minds Want To Know

A number of questions have come in asking just what has been Zimbabwe’s money supply growth. Here it is for M2: 1999 35.9%; 2000 68.9%; 2001 128.5%;2002 191.7%; 2003 430.0%. To reiterate, if printing money created real wealth, then Zimbabwe, for example, would be one of the richest countries in the world.

What is the Mises Institute?

The Mises Institute is a non-profit organization that exists to promote teaching and research in the Austrian School of economics, individual freedom, honest history, and international peace, in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises and Murray N. Rothbard.

Non-political, non-partisan, and non-PC, we advocate a radical shift in the intellectual climate, away from statism and toward a private property order. We believe that our foundational ideas are of permanent value, and oppose all efforts at compromise, sellout, and amalgamation of these ideas with fashionable political, cultural, and social doctrines inimical to their spirit.
