Milton M. Klein, RIP

My father Milton M. Klein, retired professor of history at the University of Tennessee, died from cancer Thursday morning. The local newspaper carried a brief article this morning (free registration required).

My Dad was a colonial American historian who got his PhD at Columbia about the same time as Murray Rothbard. While I never succeeded in bringing him around to "our" point of view, he met Rothbard and was impressed by him. He once told me he had read parts of Conceived in Liberty and was astonished that an economist could have mastered so much literature in early American history.

What is the Mises Institute?

The Mises Institute is a non-profit organization that exists to promote teaching and research in the Austrian School of economics, individual freedom, honest history, and international peace, in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises and Murray N. Rothbard.

Non-political, non-partisan, and non-PC, we advocate a radical shift in the intellectual climate, away from statism and toward a private property order. We believe that our foundational ideas are of permanent value, and oppose all efforts at compromise, sellout, and amalgamation of these ideas with fashionable political, cultural, and social doctrines inimical to their spirit.
