The Collapse of Penn Station: Another Failure of Government “Enterprise”

Amtrak’s Penn Station in New York City, once one of the most glorious cathedrals of commerce built by one of the most successful transportation companies in history, is collapsing. Tracks are in disrepair. That’s because they have not been properly maintained over decades since Amtrak, despite promises to the contrary at its founding in the 1970s, has consistently lost tons of money.

Withdrawing From Paris Agreement Helps the Most Vulnerable

Are you concerned about the poor’s economic welfare? If so, you should celebrate President Trump’s announcement that the United States will withdraw itself from the Paris Agreement.

The Paris climate accord, which was ratified last year, attempts to “brings all nations into a common cause to undertake ambitious efforts to combat climate change and adapt to its effects.” Supporters of the agreement claim it is necessary to avert the disastrous consequences of climate change.

Draghi Wants More Inflation

The ECB’s regular policy statement was announced today by President Mario Draghi and it was the typical central banking balance beam act of self-congratulation for the strong economy coupled with the conditional warning that was inflation was too low. This way, everyone should be thrilled that the economy is strong and yet the central planners don’t have to cut back on the monetary addiction.

Let’s Fully Deregulate the Airline Industry

While flying recently I decided to look at the price of plane tickets in Europe compared to the United States. For example, a non-stop flight of about 900 miles from Dusseldorf to Madrid costs on Expedia $125 and takes 2 hours and 45 minutes. A similar distance in the US from any airport in Chicago to any airport in New York City (789 miles) has a lowest fare of $160 and takes 2 hours and 11 minutes. I picked two of the busiest US airports, because I expected competition to be greatest there.
