President’s Impact Report — Third Quarter 2025
Mises Institute Scholars and Staff
Henry Hazlitt Research Fellow Dr. Jonathan Newman gave a talk at the 2025 Farm Bureau Actuarial Conference in Huntsville, Alabama. His talk, “The State of the Economy,” was attended by 125 people and covered current trends in the US economy, as well as the basics of Austrian economics, what causes economic growth, and what causes the business cycle.
Senior Fellow Dr. Mark Thornton was on The Sentinel Report with Alex Newman, the Freedom Works! radio show with Paul Molloy, and the Liberty and Finance podcast. Dr. Thornton also delivered the guest lecture for the September meeting of the Auburn University Economics Club, which was held at the Mises Institute.
Mises Book Clubs
The Mises Book Clubs have expanded to campuses across the country. This fall we hosted two virtual book clubs, one open to undergraduate students and one open to high school students around the world. We also held eight in-person book clubs at multiple college campuses across the country. The book clubs, led by Mises Institute scholars, are a great opportunity for students to further their study of Austrian economics and the philosophy of liberty outside of our summer flagship student programs. Below are all the campus book clubs and their latest reads:
Catholic University of America (Washington, DC): For a New Liberty: The Libertarian Manifesto, by Murray N. Rothbard
Cornerstone University (Grand Rapids, MI): Socialism: An Economic and Sociological Analysis, by Ludwig von Mises
Grove City College Mises Society (Grove City, PA): The Economics and Ethics of Private Property: Studies in Political Economy and Philosophy, by Hans-Hermann Hoppe
Oklahoma State University (Stillwater, OK): Basic Economics: A Common Sense Guide to the Economy, by Thomas Sowell, and America’s Great Depression, by Murray N. Rothbard
Penn State Erie, Behrend College (Erie, PA): Economic Policy: Thoughts for Today and Tomorrow, by Ludwig von Mises

Mises Events
Mises University 2025
Mises University is our flagship student program—we consider it the best week of the year. Students come from around the world for an intense weeklong course in Austrian economics. This year we hosted almost 100 students from 28 states and 15 countries. According to Dr. Joseph Salerno, academic vice president of the Mises Institute and the director of the program, “This year’s students were some of the most engaged, enthusiastic, and serious young scholars who have ever enrolled.” Mises University is an essential training ground for future generations of Austrian economists, and it is made possible by the generous donors of the Mises Institute.

Student Testimonials
“For some, this is a great opportunity to learn about Austrian economics—many of us have had to study on our own without any guidance. That’s why I was truly happy to experience the academic level and the quality of mentors at the Mises Institute. Not only are they intellectually brilliant, but also amazing people with values.”
—Marisabel Jarquín, Universidad del Valle de Guatemala
“The professors are down to earth and approachable while being incredibly knowledgeable on all the different topics.”
—Liam Childers, Auburn University
“I loved it! The Institute is beautiful. I got to meet a variety of new people, and it’s academically challenging. I hope I can come back next year! Thank you for everything. It’s been truly an amazing experience, and I’m already sad that it’s over.”
— Valeria Vásquez, Francisco Marroquín University

New Publications
In August the Mises Institute launched a campaign to put 100,000 copies of our newest book, Hayek for the 21st Century, a collection of some of F. A. Hayek’s best essays, in the hands of students, parents, and professionals. Hayek’s work continues to shape the world around us. It helped inspire the creation of bitcoin, changed our understanding of spontaneous order, and told bold truths about the perversion of the economics profession—even though Hayek eventually received its highest honor.
The demand has been overwhelming. Books have made their way into colleges large and small, such as Florida State University and Hillsdale College; to student groups such as Students for Liberty and the Ladies of Liberty Alliance; to crypto networks and young professional organizations; and to international groups recognizing the need for better ideas in their own countries.
In recent years, we’ve successfully distributed hundreds of thousands of copies of other Austrian classics, such as Economics in One Lesson and What Has Government Done to Our Money? We’re excited to report that we’re well on our way to achieving our goal with this campaign as well. Our special thanks to the donors that have made this possible. To receive your own copy of Hayek for the 21st Century, visit mises.org/hayek21. mises.org/hayek21.
