Why Government Schools Don’t Want You to Understand Economics: Mises Circle in Raleigh
“It is no crime to be ignorant of economics, which is, after all, a specialized discipline and one that most people consider to be a ‘dismal science.’ But it is totally irresponsible to have a loud and vociferous opinion on economic subjects while remaining in this state of ignorance.”
—Murray Rothbard
The government’s stranglehold on education has a purpose: Produce a mass of economically ignorant citizens. How else would the government be able to destroy the purchasing power of money, administer massive redistribution schemes (with bureaucrats taking their own cut, of course), and impose regulations on every industry?
Economic understanding is the antidote to state power. Students need to learn Austrian economics to be able to question the narratives surrounding big government.
