While we speak highly of “rule of law” and the “limited state,” the unfortunate truth is that the modern state is a law unto itself. 

Thanks to massive government intervention, modern capitalism hardly reflects the free market economy built up by entrepreneurs. What matters now in the business world is the access to those with political power.

Thinking clearly about the state requires us to think differently than what is typically believed. The state is not a “necessary evil,” but rather it is just evil.
