Via democide and genocide, 174,000,000 people have been murdered by States in the 20th century, with no end in sight; that’s more than 4 times the number of people murdered by war alone, which is also mortifyingly high (36,000,000).

Rare Mises Text, 1902

Die Entwicklung des gutsherrlic-bäuerlichen Verhältnisses in Galizien: 1772-1848. [The Development of the Relationship between Peasant and Lord of the Manor in Galicia: 1772-1848]. According to Mises, this study about the disappearance of serfdom in Mises’ native Galicia was the result of an assignment by his college professor. Galicia, now part of Poland and Ukraine, had been the site of a bloody peasant uprising against the nobility in 1846.
