Yesterday the Federal Reserve, seemingly appropriately exactly 5 years since the peak of the tech stock bubble came out with its quarterly flow of funds report . In the section on debt levels we can see that several psychological “landmarks” for debt levels were reached during the fourth quarter of 2004.

Robbert Herring, a “tycoon”, has offered Michael Schiavo $1million if he hands over the rights to decide whether or not to take his wife, Terri Schiavo, to her parents. Mr. Schiavo says that she’d told him she didn’t want to live that way, but her parents disagree and think she could become better with treatment. Mr. Herring, who is a completely independent party, thinks that new developments in stem-cell research may provide hope for Mrs. Schiavo.

Among the critics of Austrian economics none is so close, yet so far, from being an Austrian as Bryan Caplan. In his latest effort to discredit Austrian Economics Bryan has taken on the idea of time preference. According to Bryan the idea that interest rates and intertemporal consumption decisions depend upon time preference is wrong. All one need to explain this is the notion of diminishing marginal utility, not time preference.

Now Jane’s Information Group is running the story [sorry, subscription only] on their website as evidence of the escalating violence related to the Canadian marijuana trade, and presumably of a need for more Drug War efforts.
