I Am Outraged About Global Competition!

[Michigan] Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today issued the following statement on the announcement that Delphi has filed for Chapter 11: I am profoundly disturbed by Delphi’s decision and what it means for the nearly 15,000 Michigan employees, many of whom have worked for decades for the company based upon the promise that they would have a pension and health care when they retired. Globalization is ravaging Michigan’s manufacturing job base.

Agenda 21

“You cannot OWN property, comrade, you might misuse it. Leave it to us self-appointed Global Guardians to take care of things for you, instead.”

At least, that’s the gist of a solid article underlining how the new Green Bolshevism is encroaching on our rights in the name of “sustainable development”.

The sound of my head exploding...

...Brought on by articles like this one. It turns out that everything that went so horrifically wrong with the response to Katrina was not a failure of government, but the result of combining government and capitalism. The combination of government and socialism, on the other hand, would have succeeded admirably. Or so says this article, which trumpets the superiority of Cuba’s response to hurricanes.

Germany: Doomed by Schmollerism

Germany’s economic performance in the past decade or so has been marked by slow GDP and productivity growth, weak job creation, high unemployment and low rates of return on investment. Japan and many of the rest of Europe’s mature economies aren’t doing any better — cold comfort, perhaps — but Germany comes off as an underachiever when compared with the developed world’s most dynamic economies. They’re largely the stalwarts of the former British Empire — Britain itself, the United States, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
