Red Flag Laws: The Latest Anti-Gun Scheme

Gun control may be coming to a legislature near you.

In the wake of the Parkland, Florida, and Santa Fe, Texas, shootings, elected officials on both sides of the political aisle are rallying around “red flag” legislation.

Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs), informally known as red flag laws, are gaining traction in legislatures nationwide. Red flag laws are presented as a common-sense proposal to disarm people who allegedly present a danger to themselves or others around them.

Tariffs: Tax Hikes Wrapped in the Flag

Trump’s tariffs are simply, in the words of economist Murray Rothbard, “not only nonsense, but dangerous nonsense, destructive of all economic prosperity.” Business owners who are suffering from this ham-handed government intervention should be the first to complain, whether having voted for Trump or not.

An Open Letter About Anti-Russian Paranoia

[An Open Letter to Radio Pundit Ed Morrissey]

Dear Ed,

If you don’t mind a friendly note from a listener...

I almost spilled my coffee when driving home from work, listening to you filling in for Sheila Liaugminas on Relevant Radio the Catholic radio network. You and Andrew Malcolm were reinforcing the mainstream spin on the Trump-Putin summit, and you mentioned the need to check Russian imperialism.

But they do, unfortunately, have a wildly disproportionate amount of influence in Washington.

Police Abuse Hate Crime Laws to Enhance Their Own Power

Previously I wrote about efforts in the US Congress to pass legislation that would make police officers an even more protected class by allowing federal prosecutors to charge individuals with committing “hate crimes” against them. While that legislation has not yet passed in the Senate and will hopefully die, some police officers have found other ways to use hate crimes legislation to their benefit.

Expect More Instability, Corruption, and Crime from Mexico’s AMLO

On July 1st, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) won Mexico’s presidential election in a landslide. He pulled in a whopping 53% of the vote. This left the candidate from the governing Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), José Antonio Meade, in the dust, with a third place finish and only 16% of the vote. Ricardo Anaya from the conservative National Action Party (PAN) didn’t do much better. His second-place finish only carried 22% of the vote.
