American politics is a duopoly; consequently, the Democratic Party’s imminent division and collapse will soon lead to the resurgence of an anti-Republican Party. The entire process, therefore, will only appear shocking and unpredictable; in fact, it’s inevitable.
American policy makers have shown a surprising amount of sanity so far in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. While some war enthusiasts among the American punditry have certainly been agitating for World War III, the leadership in both the White House and Congress has repeatedly and straightforwardly refused most calls to escalate the conflict.
What almost everyone calls “inflation” is really a rise in the general price level. OK. But the real definition of “inflation” is inflation of the money supply. A rise in the general price level is a consequence of inflation of the money supply.
Journalist, historical analyst, and conspiracy theorist Mathew Erhet joined Whitney Webb’s Unlimited Hangout podcast titled “Fabians and Fascists”. Erhet made several extraordinary claims, many of which I found intriguing and planned to verify later. I was impressed with Erhet as he was quite articulate and pulled “facts” from a seemingly endless memory bank. However, the following comment caused me to reassess my initial impression:

Yet here we are. The central planners are fighting inflation with more inflation.

Carl Schmitt has been classified in many different ways, but certainly never as a libertarian. To the contrary, Schmitt strongly supported a strong state and for a few years was a leading light among Nazi jurists, though he fell out of favor with the Nazi Party after 1936. In his great work Constitutional Theory (1928), he writes critically of the bourgeois state based on the rule of law (Rechtsstaat), and the great classical liberal Benjamin Constant is a principal target.
Changes often induce fear--including the fear that some aspect of our current well-being will be eroded due to changes that could take place in markets. For instance, the invention of a lower cost way of providing a service I now offer could lower what I now earn. The potential that we might be harmed by such changes can make us very risk averse.
