Mises Circle New Mexico 2026

In 2011, Ron Paul grilled then-Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke on the role of money in the global financial system. Bernanke dismissed central bank’s gold holdings as simply “tradition,” little different than John Maynard Keynes’ infamous dismissal of it as a “barbarous relic.”

Fast forward to 2026, and gold and silver are back at the forefront of financial markets. While its market price continues to fluctuate from its record highs earlier in the year, it has become one of the most in-demand assets for central bankers and large financial institutions. The Trump Administration has labeled gold and silver as critical minerals, while economic wargame scenarios map out the potential consequences America would face if China or the broader coalition of BRICs economies returned gold to its historical place as a means for international payment.

What should normal Americans think about the renewed interest in precious metals? Join the Mises Institute in beautiful New Mexico for an event dedicated to gold, silver and the prospects for liberty. We will be joined by a panel of experts, including Mises Senior Fellow Mark Thornton and JP Cortez of the Sound Money Project for a discussion you won’t find in traditional financial media.
