Fine Dining

• J Williams (277 S. Gay St.): compares to the Four Seasons in New York. Phenomenal, and close by. 501.5656. Review
• Auburn City Limits (2450 Highway 14 West): which is actually not far from the Mises Institute. Turn left on 14 and drive about 1 mile. It looks like a roadhouse, but the food and service are spectacular. 
• Olde Auburn Ale House (123 Tichenor): a local microbrewery, with an award-winning brewmaster and English pub atmosphere. There's a secret passageway on College street that spills out into a parking lot. Turn to the left, and under the roof you will find the best beer in the world. 
• The Amsterdam Cafe (410 S. Gay St.): corner of Samford and Gay has been officially endorsed by many years of visiting fellows and students. Surprisingly wonderful food (especially the tuna steaks). 826.8181
  
• Hamilton's Restaurant (174 E. Magnolia): in the heart of uptown, very nice, intimate atmosphere, and convenient location.

• Carmike Cinema (2111 E. University Ave), one of those 16-screen palaces built in the 90s boom times, but this one is still making money. 
• Alabama Shakespeare Festival Theater, in Montgomery, 30 miles to the South, the 5th largest Shakespeare theater in the world. A professional company. 
• Callaway Gardens, in Georgia, a stunning display of private environmentalism. It is a 45 minute drive. 
• Antiques: Village Antiques (2192 S. College) keeps a vast inventory, plus old helmets and uniforms, masks and boxes, paper monies, and the like; Magnolia Tree (409 E. Magnolia) and the Back Porch (next door), nice shops of linens, cards, candles, coffees, lamps, and gifts that also carry old silver pieces and watches. 
• Outlet Mall (1220 Fox Run Parkway) to pick up good deals on Duckhead trousers, kitchen items, and glassware. 
• Auburn Arboretum, beautiful acres of pastures, trees, bridges, ponds, and unusual plants. 
• Chewacla State Park, a quiet lake with ducks, rental boats, hiking trails, swimming, and diving boards, is only a ten minute drive from the Conference Center.
