Figure I have nothing to lose by posting this here and the wild chance someone has dealt with this before.  Past 2-3 weeks my gums have been receding.  It actually started a year ago when I was drinking heavily, but right when I noticed I stopped, and so did the problem.  You (or I, really) could only tell it slightly receded above one tooth (lateral incisor) and nothing more.  Past 3 weeks it's come back out of nowhere.  It'll appear to move to one tooth, stop, and move to another (it's not all at once), and then stay on said tooth for a few days and move on (as if "it" is jumping around).  Only symptons are bleeding (when I brush) and receding, beyond that it's nothing and as I said it's come out of nowhere, and besides specific teeth my gums appear normal.  I've been taking 1,000 mg of vitamin C a day as well as around 120+ mg of CoQ-10 a day which I'm going to bump up to 1,000 mg a day.  I've only been drinking water since it started.  There's an organic food store here that has some dental products, and some stuff specifically for gums I'm going to try out (as well as a softer tooth brush).  Beyond brushing and using mouthwash at least twice a day and vitamins I don't know how else to combat this, and right now I don't have the money to see a dentist or go through with a procedure that I hear is "painful" to fix this.  Anyone else go through this or known anyone who has?

Edit: the Listerene I'm using has 4 active ingredients, each of which are less than 1% (I don't remember which exactly), and for inactive ingredients 27% is alcohol, which in ways I find a bit odd with the negative affects alcohol has on teeth.  If alcohol is inactive why would it be added besides "sterilization" or something?  This mouthwash is specific for gingivitis, but I have not seen any improvement with use.  The "organic" mouthwash I looked at did not contain alcohol or flouride.

Since I figured out the problem I decided to share it since it may be of some use to anyone.  Long story short it was the toothpaste I was using which was Crest Whitening, the problem?  My brother tells me whitening toothpaste has bleach in it, and it can be to the point it's no different than just pouring bleach in your mouth.  This problem started when I started using Crest, and conveniently stopped when I switched toothpaste.  The Listerene doesn't help either as all that did was burn my mouth even more.  Right now I'm using Nature's Gate toothpaste (no flouride/SLS/paraben) and Natural Dentist mouthwash (20% aloe vera as an active ingredient, no flouride/alcohol).  The receding stopped the day after I stopped using Crest, and I haven't had problems since.  Thank you Crest for destroying my gums.

But it's FDA approved!

Glad to read that you're better. If you start flossing, it may help in alleviating the condition and preventing others from starting. Your gums will bleed at first, but after two weeks -at most, otherwise the floss says to check with your dentist- your gums should stop bleeding and be healthier than most people's gums. Good Luck!

Well, the condition was caused by name brand toothpaste.  I pretty much never flossed til this because I thought I had gingivitis, when it was far from the case.  Now I'm perfectly fine, just need to take a ton of vitamin C and CoQ-10 and hope that rebuilds my gums.
