I think he should have supported him the whole way. I'm no expert on American politics but isn't Hagel the most non interventionist of defense secretaries that Obama could conceivably nominate?

What does that mean? Obama is able to nominate anyone.

Re: Why in the hell did Rand Paul vote to confirm Hagel?

ok, why wouldnt he vote to confirm? whats wrong with hagel that couldnt be said about kerry, clinton, condi, kissinger, etc.? I'm genuinely curious why there seems to be an expectation that mainstream politicians oppose the confirmation of political appointments "just because." the country could still go to war with a vacant cabinet, or a cabinet full of "illegal" or unconfirmed bureaucrats.

Re: Why in the hell did Rand Paul vote to confirm Hagel?

Well, it seems to me that Obama hires incompetent yes-men. Rand Paul probably did this so he can legitimately claim that he is not another Republican "obstructionist." He's trying to come across as fair and impartial and not a naysaying ideologue. It may give his later arguments and run more credence as someone who carefully considered the issues who is not simply a partisan hack.

Re: Why in the hell did Rand Paul vote to confirm Hagel?
