• Art for it's own sake (or who here can photoshop?)

I envision a t-shirt or poster that has the famous Uncle Sam poster, with Uncle Sam's coat in red, and the blue band around his had in red and the stars in gold. And then the caption saying something like "I want your tax dollars" or something to that effect.

  • What caused the panic of 1857?

A friend thinks it's the ultimate proof that the ABCT is false. I can't find much about it, except a few scattered, snippets here and there. It seems it wasn't a very severe panic.

  • Social Contract: What are the best arguments for this concept, and how do we refute them?

A discussion recently with a guy, I was told, believed in the Social Contract theory and could debate anyone into the ground on the subject. How very disappointed I was when the guy just repeated "you were born into a social contract" over and over again. I just told him to call me when he could prove that I was born into any contract. Does

  • Re: How WOULD roads be paid for in a free market?
It would vary, depending on the type of road we are talking about. A major highway would most likely be funded by tolls. Roads in a housing development would most likely be paid for by the residents who live there. The difference being that a private company would be taking care of the services, not the state. [/quote

  • How WOULD roads be paid for in a free market?

I can think of a few ways: Toll roads, obviously. Renting the property next to the road to hotels, gas stations, etc. Billboard advertising. Don't charge for the roads at all. Make the roads be a loss leader, as they say in business parlance. For example, FTL gives away MP3s of their shows, and their entire website content for free. They take a

Libertarianism is not synonymous with conspiracy theory.
Maybe not, but my impression is that most of you believe the world is run by bankers, that Obama is a puppet, that the Bilderberger Group are setting the agenda for the world, that mainstream media is a government

  • Re: On "What Soviet Medicine Teaches Us"

My daughter just got back from Cuba. She said that, in talking to the people there, she learned that a child 2 years old and younger is considered a fetus, and if one dies, it is recorded as still-born or as a spontaneous abortion. Thus, Cuba's government can show longevity rates that equal or surpass those of any first world country.

Patriot: When you click reply, you will see in bold, above where you type your response, a bluish-gray box that contains the content of the post to which you are replying. Beneath that is a hyperlinked (blue) word: Quote. Click that. You will then see a bracketed set of words that say [ quote user="Knight_of_BAAWA" ] or whomever it is you
