• Re: gold confiscation of '33

They were at the current set ratio of dollars to gold. Shortly thereafter the ratio was nearly doubled, effectively stealing half of everyone's gold wealth. I can't figure out how they did that without a revolt, but I guess after 10 years of depression people will take anything.

  • Re: Holiday Advice Anyone?

I don't have any specifics for you I'm afraid, but I know that the coastal areas in Europe get very crowded mid summer. We're looking at going roughly the same time next summer and I'm planning on staying away from the coast in general. Of course if you intend to spend the trip on the beach then that won't do for you.

  • Re: Ron Paul promotes End the Fed on the Daily Show
Meh, that's what he believes, and given that, I think he was very respectful of Ron Paul.
Jon Stewart is actually very good about that. You can tell when he blatantly disagrees with the person he is interviewing (which is pretty often) but he somehow always manages to keep it civil and respectful.
but they make far too big a deal of how we're to deal with murderers, theives etc.
Expecting to have a way to deal with thieves and murderers is not a ridiculous request. In fact, you guys seem to have the thieves, trespassers, assault, etc covered pretty well with the exception of murder. I doubt very

  • Re: Murderers

Wow, I'm a little disappointed there seems to be no answer for this, and I figured it would be a pretty basic question in terms of libertarian theory. Obviously the car theft analogy doesn't work completely because the previous owner of the car has to have the sole ownership of the right to get compensation. I disagree with Spidey that you cannot
Only if you see it that way. Private courts within the principle of libertarianism would help protect those liberties.
This isn't government.
It would actually have to protect our liberties. That's all it would be required to do. All it would do- is to preserve the bill of rights. That's why it would have the label of government.
But the only way you could create this would be to violate rights.
I'm
I used to be an anarchist. However, I've come to a realization that if the government was very small and could provide some services through voluntary donations perhaps it wouldn't be so bad.
Which part of this would require the label of government instead of non-profit organization?
Minarchists are allowed to exist and there is nothing you can do about it.
Are minarchists allowed to violate my rights by stealing tax money to fund their government? I really don't care if they "exist" so long as they don't propose to take anything from me by force or coerce me into action
