  • Re: Legalization of Marjiuana for Recreational use

Ironic, isn't it? The statist says that people are not responsible enough to make their own decisions, yet they seem to forget that the regulators chosen to bear that responsibility on our behalf are just as human, and therefore, not responsible enough. Perhaps we need to find a race of aliens to rule us? The Rev

  • Re: How can Austrians test or prove their theories?

I think for some, it's easier to be sure of beliefs that you can't prove wrong. If you refuse to question, or investigate a theory, and accept that because it is logical, it must therefore be correct, you're no different than anyone else subscribing to any other religion. There are alot of Austrian enthusiasts, because of the emotional attachment

  • Re: Misleading advertisements

Where would one draw the line between persuasion and coercion? I would define persuasion as making an argument intended to appeal to the reason of another person, an appeal to see the correctness of a given point of view. Manipulation, on the other hand, relies on trickery. If driving the latest Brand X car really DID mean my life would become more

  • Re: Misleading advertisements

My problem with advertising isn't the outright lying, but the psychological calculation that goes into it. Beer, for example, is advertised with images of sports excitement or hot girls, so that we will associate the product with the imagery. This is not lying in the direct sense, but using repetition of exciting imagery to evoke a certain positive

  • Re: Not voting out of principle = voter apathy = insanity

When people ask me why I don't vote, I tell them that I don't consider a 100 Millionth share in a really poorly informed decision to be a worthy substitute for actual freedom. The Rev

  • Re: Spiraling depressions and arbitrage

I never thought of it that way, but that makes alot of sense. To me, the idea of a viscious downward cycle flies in the face of equilibrium. If economies are so fragile, and of a structure that could turn against itself, few if any would last in a totally free state, let alone under the weight of government interference. The Rev

  • Re: I want to see Rothbardians defend a puppy getting its ears and tail hacked off

What I would like the Rothbardians to defend is the need to give this post 436 replies, while substantial questions about economics, more times than not, go unanswered. Is Mises.org about sharing knowledge of Austrian Econ, or arguing to feel superior? I seriously wonder if many of you know much more than that you are right. The Rev
