On most mature forums, over moderation and administration doesn't work. Laissez-faire is usually the most efficient and social policy.
I agree. Nothing works like hands off moderating freeing the legitimate posters to flame the trolls into running away.

Oh well, one can dream.

Or one can exercise his freedom to go find a more flame-friendly forum, or start his own echo chamber populated only by "legitimate" posters (i.e. ones who toe the ideological line drawn by the resident bullies).

That's not laissez faire. That is mob rule.

Right, but you don't behave the same way on all of them. The point I made, and perhaps Lilburne is making as well, is that one is not constrained to post here (consumer sovereignty) and if the forum does not suit that individual then they are certainly welcome to avail themselves of other opportunities.

So for you, it is not binary. But for those people who are so adamant this forum is run so badly, one cannot fathom why they continue to protest instead of seeking relief, if relief is really what they are interested in.

It's like this unnamed moderator who holds Lilburne and the LvMI posting standards in contempt. Why does he choose to remain a mod and then undermine Lilburne and the LvMI posting standards?

Be careful not to mark yourself out as a troublemaker

Where there is no property there is no justice; a proposition as certain as any demonstration in Euclid
