Well...giant for me anyway.

Tax time again.  I wait until the next to the last minute to pay to not be arrested.

Also I was checking through my junk mail and I found something I got back in January.   It is a bill from the New York State Department of Revenue.  They have about 20 pages of what I can do to appeal the judgement they have against me for $58.00 but they did not tell me what it was for.

Perhaps I did not read it carefully enough.

Last time I got one of these bills it was for $104.00 (2x58) for my 2003 taxes.  They said I had miscalculated my return but during that year I just submitted it to them for their calculation and they sent me a refund check for about $5.00.  So I am guessing this is what the bill is for, either they miscalculate or New York State (very much in debt) just picks people at random and bills them.

Now I am a contractor and nothing gets withheld from my paycheck.  It is so tempting to not pay or file or anything like that but I do not like jail.  I hate having the state pay attention to me, so I chicken out and I pay.

Then to torture myself further I look online for really foolish things I could have spent the money on, like bottles of really expensive scotch that tastes like peat moss, old cars that don't work but look cool, clothing for my cat, dinner plates with a "massage" setting, snowballs made by semi-famous people and an instructional DVD on how to program a VCR....all these things would be better than what the state is going to spend my money on.
