So here's a question:

It seems like many are saying buy gold in this crisis and I'm totally on board with that idea. But suppose I need to liquidate ASAP, can I sell gold coins just as easily as I can buy them? Seems a little risky to me to know that I may not be able to capitalize on the investment if I cannot find a buyer.

Gold is great for the long term.  But short term, with all the government interventions and such, it is difficult to get perspective on its liquidity.  In a free market, gold would most likely be King.  But in whatever monstrosity you want to call the current market, it's liquidity and exchange value may prove difficult to judge.
