Democracy for Breakfast Posted: Tue, Sep 29 2009 10:28 PM

I recently got broken up with, because the girl I was dating couldn't handle my pessimistic attitude on the world anymore.  She just one day got really angry at me, then got all nasty and ended it. It was really weird, her mood literally changed over night.

Additionally, I need a girl who's intelligent enough so I won't feel awkward about talking about "stuff" Stick out tongue [Individualism and Laissez-Faire].

Relevant to this discussion, I'd like to drop a love quote by my favorite Libertarian.

" "Love" is that condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own... Jealousy is a disease, love is a healthy condition. The immature mind often mistakes one for the other, or assumes that the greater the love, the greater the jealousy."
- Robert A. Heinlein

I don't think intelligence is as important as you make it seem. As long as they are not brainwashed into needing the state, then she should be fine. Also, you have to understand why people believe what they believe. It is not always because they are evil or stupid. Mostly, they are ignorant to what we know and have been brought up with a certain worldview.

You must read In Defense of Women, by H.L. Mencken. I wish I had read this when I was younger. I could have saved myself a lot of money, heartache, and confusion.

"Love is the triumph of imagination over intelligence"
"Bachelors know more about women than married men; if they didn't they'd be married too."
"Love is the delusion that one woman differs from another."
"Temptation is a woman's weapon and man's excuse."

I was once of a mind that I wanted a smart woman. Now I just want a pretty one that can cook.

Thinking that people do not need an institution who over the last century has killed over 170 million people is pessimistic?

Er.. couples fight all the time. If it's not about politics, it's about something else (e.g. not taking out the garbage). So I guess the standard relationship advice regarding conflict resolution would apply here.

Oddly enough you just gave the argument against socialism in the early 20th century. Namely, 'who takes out the garbage?'...or modernly called the incentive problem.

Wow! I had no idea this book existed! That stuff is pretty funny and tends to ring true. :)

The appeal to "charity" is a truly ironic one. First, it is hardly "charity" to take wealth by force and hand it over to someone else. -Rothbard

Bank Run: It sort of seems as if you think that a woman who is pretty and can cook cant be intelligent. Im not going to get all feminist on you but the the quotes you selected are too much of a cliché, specially said by a guy on a forum like this one.

Democracy for breakfast: If she broke up with you because you were too pessimistic, it probably means that her personality and yours aren't compatible. It would be like a relationship between Murray Rothbard and John Keynes, it just doesn't work. Just because she doesnt share the same worldview as you, it doesn't mean she isnt intelligent, maybe it means that you're too drowned in your negativity.

Those quotes sound really biased. From your knowledge, it sounds like the guy who wrote that book only cares about having a kitchen wife.

After a while, you simply know what topics are better to be avoided :)

He basically said "Relax, emotional meanings in relationships are meaningless, so save yourself the heartache because you will be way better off, and its more important to find a good mother and good housewife".

If you don't want this to be an issue go for someone who is intellectually open-minded, preferrably already liberty-leaning, and who has a compatible personality with yours. It is for me so I avoid people whom I know I will not get along with (most people.)

To darkness I condemn you...

You should just find someone who will listen to your ideas, and listen to you talk with interest. You can't say that most females aren't worth your time because they don't know about us. Mises is an elitist philosophy.

I feel that there's something wrong with that. I network as much as possible, which Is important. You shouldn't disregard people just because they have different opinions, or are impenetratable(sp?). They may just not be into Political Theory, but have other interests they are passionate about.
