How bad was the recession of 1948-49?, and how strong was the U.S. export economy immediately following WWII? 

my hypothesis is that the export economy was not good, given the number of customers killed, and the massive loss of wealth during the war, on the other hand, the U.S. was about the only country that hadn't been bombed out and still had operational factories....
