Milton Friedman gave written advice to the People's Republic of China, but this was under the leadership of Deng Xiaoping, a political pragmatist who was looking for ways to reform China's command economy along more capitalistic lines. It's not like Friedman's advice was being solicited by Kim Il-sung or Enver Hoxha.

Hi Friedmanite, thanks for your reply.

However my question is about the Communist governments of the countries that Friedman visited and gave the same lectures as in Chile. That is, how Communist government executives gave Friedman the permission to talk to the citizens of these countries, about Capitalism and Free Market?

Didn't they were afraid of people being attracted and interested in Capitalism and Free Market?

There was a CIA-backed coup d'etat in 1973 under the leadership of Augusto Pinochet. Both he and his predecessor were military dictators, but Pinochet wasn't a communist at all. He happened to like free markets and his economic advisors were all trained at the University of Chicago (known as the Chicago boys).

They say, that the era that Friedman visited Chile, gave lectures about capitalism and free market in Communist countries, as well.

I wonder, how can a Communist goverment which propagandizes its citizens against Capitalism, give permission to someone to talk freely about Capitalism and Free Market?
