Who is this PHIL user with the mass comments?  He looks / sounds like a troll :|

In any case, nice thread to occupy oneself on a boring, no work sunday :D

I... this is a joke, yes? I'm unsure :-)

Roderick Long takes quite a beating.

I mean, I can understand some of his comments based on trying to listen to one of Long's lectures (Foundations of Libertarian Ethics; I probably understood about 35 % of it, halfway in), but then again, the content itself is well over my head.

But he's treating the comment system like his own personal message board, and I'm a bit surprised he hasn't been banned yet, especially since it appears he is using different accounts (all variations on the phil alias) to post similar review over & over.

I can understand why Long takes such harsh criticism based on the lectures on the Mises site. I looked up Woods and no suprises he received great reviews.

Mr. Adict,

the column with all the "phil" comments is called "class", not "name". Big Smile

I'd like to know what some of the raters are talking about when they say Hoppe 'discriminates against sexuality'.  Only thing I recall was a complaint filed against him several years ago because he made a comment where he grouped homosexuals as a high time preference group, but was there more to that?  Makes me wonder if it is the same sort of thing that happened to Block.

It was worse then Block's ordeal if I recall correctly. As far as I know, what happened what Hoppe claimed that on average homosexuals have a higher time preference than heterosexuals since the former cannot have children and as such the length of the time for which they may plan decreases, citing Keynes as a famous example. A homosexual student filed a complaint about this and Hoppe then made contact with the commissar and agreed to make explicit the difference between "on average" and "always" or something, and then proceeded to illustrate this in another lecture concerning the amount of spaghetti eaten by Italians and Spanish on average at which point the student filed another complaint saying that Hoppe did not take his veiws seriously. After this he had to appear before a commitee. At which point his request for the meetings to be taped were declined, as was his request to hear the witness, he was also accused of being a Nazi. Anyway long story short, he was caught up in this nonsense for a year or so at which point they dropped all charges.

You forgot Walter Block.

From rating:

he's a great teacher that is very distinguished and very helpful. He's not that hot, however, and watchout for his yellow dress shirt.

It seems a lot of the complaints can be reduced to "I didn't work very hard, but he didn't want to give me an A"

hehe. I didn't really forget Walter Block. I just thought the comments on Walter Block were pretty boring, and not worth the read.  Considering the personality we see from Block at the mises institute, i thought his profile on ratemyprofessors.com was disappointing.

The comment about 'watch(ing) out' for his yellow dress shirt is about how I imagine him, though.
