I've always wanted to know, what do you guys think about J D Rockefeller Sr.? I've read plenty of books that praise his brilliant business skills in managing an oil empire, yet then you read in other places about his sons and grandchildren in a conspiracy for world government. Then you hear that he took place (or at least his financial people) in dragooning in the Federal Reserve System into our country.
Now whenever people ask me, I always say I like him, mainly because I don't want to get into a Federal Reserve world government conspiracy and say he took part in it. I definitely hate his kin it seems, but what about the actual man himself? I've divided between someone who revolutionized an industry and did things mostly the free market way, yet torn over whether he took part in establishing the FRS or planning world government...if so, couldn't this be used as justification for free market businessmen will conspire anyway to take over the world?
In addition you can throw in Carnagie, Hill, or any of the other good "Robber Barons".
A businessman with the wits of Rockefeller would have to be an utter saint to not exploit any political loopholes for his own profit. Plus, remember that anti-trust zealots basically demolished his business legacy even though he'd been making oil available at the lowest possible rates for years.I'm not quite familiar with all of Rockefeller's activities, but I could understand if he'd gone "This is nuts. If you want progressivism forced down your throats, you'll get it!" after the break-up of Standard Oil, thus his role in the creation of the Fed. But, again, this is just a wild guess.
Yeah thats my assumption as well. I just assume that he is like (along with everyone else who got screwed by the government) "screw this shit". I don't think he himself had world domination plans...just his sons. When government intefers in business, it only gets closer to business.
I'm pretty sure is was Rockefeller Jr who was involved with the Federal Reserve
do we get free cheezeburger in socielism?
That last bit is quotable!
my blog
Do you mean "When government interfers in business, it only gets closer to business?" I think Triumph of Conservatism had something like that, I don't know if what I said was it word for word.
Wasn't he the benefactor of the University of Chicago? If so, that was a great service to capitalism.
