Don't know if anyone else is following this, but yesterday a cop shot and killed a teenager (unprovoked, according to most sources) in the Ex-Archia social anarchist neighborhood of Athens. Apparently, this set off a riot that is still going on. Some details here, including a post from a Greek anarchist participating.

I was more interested in the hunger strike by the inmates in the Greek prison that caused the prison to release half of the prisoners, but the riot is also something I caught up on reddit. Personally, I don't know what to think.

Wow, unless I misread him, I just lost so much respect for Francois Tremblay.

rechelon: There's an entire anarchist nieghborhood/zone in Athens that's actually named -- get this -- Ex-Archia, where the cops are pretty much outlawed. Anarchists militants are constantly arrested, sent to jail, whereupon the jails are promptly attacked and the militants set free.

Perhaps we in North America should try to set up such a zone. It could be interesting. And I wonder how our thugs would react if their precious jails were attacked after they threw non-criminals in cages.
I am an eklektarchist not an anarchist.

You mean because of his comment on "pig firebombing"? Yea, that kind of tactic is not necesary - YET. It may be soon though. There a point in tyrany when it is perfectly justified to outright attack the police. We are not there yet - but it may come soon.
So what are they protesting about now? Evil corps?
To darkness I condemn you...

Yeah, I'm not a fan of people being so callous and casual about violence.
Violence against the state is not a winning strategy. But then leftists always seem to believe that violence is justified.

I wish you wouldn't paste to Word or some Microsoft program and then paste here. It breaks the forum. If you must, use Notepad. It is a plain text editor.
Tremblay is the exception to the rule, if you'll read on. As far as firebombing police goes... its a tactic of questionable effectiveness. Depending on the situation, it could easily be done in self-defense, but that are almost always better ways out than direct violence.

I doubt it would work very well. Average Joe loves pigs. Just look at the popularity of "Cops". Maybe after a couple decades of a real police state like Greece had, as is looking increasingly likely...

Sorry, I am at work right now. At home I use Ubuntu Linux. What browser are you using and what does it look like? I just like to check my spelling is all.

I don't view violence as justified at all, but just because I don't, doesn't mean other's agree with me. I would say that the this kind of tactic hasn't *occurred* yet, not that it's necessary for it to occur. There's a difference between viewing violence as possible, & viewing it as inevitable. I don't care if your a perpendicular libertarian, if you think violence is justified beyond a self-defense basis (which also means not going on the offensive once "first blood" was drawn by The State, as I'm sure some would love to rationalize that), you are not libertarian. It's a shame the riots will get more sensationalist attention than the hunger strike, from both statists & anti-statists alike.
lol, Ubuntu user = ok. :)

Have you ever had a run in with the police? Ever been arrested?

You're right, of course.

I would agree that it is not, at the time of this post, justified to out and out attack the police - at least not on the Florida Peninsula. However, if we become a 21st century version of NAZI Germany I would view every storm trooper as initiating violence against me by virtue of wearing that uniform. Do you understand?
I see more in common with the USSR than Nazi Germany, honestly. Even in your hypothetical, I see no rationale for going on the counter-offensive, unless it is done on a self-defense, case-by-case basis, individual by individual (i.e. not war). I don't care how dire you think the situation is, you do not want war, nobody does.
From what I've heard the state immediatly aressted the two officers, so I don't know why there was reason for riots, and Liberty student you do indeed have a point the minute we become desesitized to violence is the minute we no longer have our humanity. Violence should always be the absolute last resort!
