Has anyone been to http://www.change.gov yet and read this ridiculous garbage? Here's one of my personal favorites:

Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year.

It was hilarious on election night watching my fellow college students out in the street screaming and dancing when Obama was projected to win. Sure, the Bush years were bad, but this isn't any better! Have we finally found ourselves in 1984? Slavery is freedom!

Those Obama fans aren't going to like actually doing the work.  People who want to do community service, already do so.  They don't need to be told, led or legislated into doing it.

I can see the Obama kids getting right ticked off that they have to perform unpaid labour, particularly while footing the bill to go to college.

Socialists cannot accept this fact. They view people as sheep who can't do anything without the guidance of their benevolent socialist shepherds. Really, who in their right mind would want to work in the middle schools voluntarily? What if they're some perverts? We have to regulate it to make sure they're not!

It will be interesting to see what sorts of jobs will be given to 8 year olds.  Maybe they can pick up rocks on the road, or run messages between classrooms, because we know that once Obama bankrupts the coal plants, they won't have electricity to power the intercom.

By the way, this is starting to remind me of my socialist childhood when all adults had to do some community service, from planting trees in the public parks to gathering crops for the collective farms (the workers on the farms were either drunk or fleeing the countryside for better jobs in the cities so they had to send university students and white collar professionals like my parents to prevent widespread hunger). Socialists make people poor, miserable and distrustful of each other. And yet they manage to convince a significant portion of population that they actually care for the public good. This must be one of the greatest paradoxes of our time.

We didn't have an intercom in my school and did just fine. Besides, they must be bad for environment anyway. Let's get back to basics, to the innocent times when the evil capitalists didn't corrupt our green planet. Of course, Obama and government officials must be allowed to have electricity, cars and other luxuries as a reward for their hard work to protect us from our own wickedness. Change is coming, folks!

What I find interesting is that no one does studies on how much energy the government wastes, or how much energy is wasted by and planetary destruction created by the Pentagon.

But then greens are really the "useful idiot" foot soldiers for the super statists.  They are the next front in anti-capitalism.

Ahh, but the people who don't want to do community service won't do it so, obviously, they have to be forced to.

Just remember, coerced unpaid labor is only slavery when someone other than the state holds the whip.

Can the draft be far behind?

Anybody see the video of the Obama workers in Indianapolis camped out in front of the campaign office demanding pay for their work?

Instead of a paycheck they could count it towards their community service...Hey, it's all in the socialist spirit.

Who cares as long as the government gives out taxpayers' money on some costly environmental projects with dubious results (because useful projects are already being taking care of by the private industry).

I found the whole piece. It's funny how it quickly goes from "choosing to serve for American dream" to "being forced to serve by the government".

President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps.

It's so easy to waste money when it's not yours. I suppose better this than killing people in foreign countries, but Obama is not exactly a peacenik is he?

Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55,

Are they going to be paid well? I gotta tell my mom.

while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

Yay for Obamajugend!

They will also strengthen Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs), which are engaged in innovative methods to provide capital to urban businesses.

Nice, more mandated lending to no people with no credit. CRA all over again.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden will strengthen Small Business Administration programs that provide capital to women and minority-owned businesses, support outreach programs that help business owners apply for loans.

Affirmative Action in bank loans. Bias and socialist, nice treat. Clearly, current policy failure has had no effect on these guys.

I didn't think anything could really be worse than the cartoonish jingoism, welfare-for-trillionaires, smug anti-intellectualism, and barbaric, immoral wars of the Bush administration.  Now I'm beginning to wonder.

Looks like we've traded up for four years of totalitarian political correctness, welfare-for-people-on-welfare, and cluster-f*** "peacekeeping" missions all over the place.

I'm telling you, these political parties are practically interchangeable now, the Dems being more redistributionist while Republicans more warlike. Doesn't matter in the end since with their combined efforts this country is moving full speed to bankruptcy and tyranny and dragging the rest of the world with it. This is a bad time we're living in. At least a couple hundred of years ago people could free to America or other relatively free places. Where would we go now? Unfortunately, I don't thin that space colonization would happen in any forseable future.

Of course not. They can blame failure on racism and free market.

I guess now America is going to join the ranks of those pathetic third-world nations which, as socialists put it, "exploit cheap child labor"!!!!!

So this is what the "Brother" from 1984 is going to look like.

For the record, this page appears to have been edited to remove the word 'required' and re-emphasize that this is a program that will give college students a $4,000 tax credit. I guess it doesn't offer an incentive for middle and high school kids because they assume that since they can force people to go to school they should be able to force them to work as well.
