9,9 times out of 10, deified politicians didn't achieve their status by working social miracles, but by giving their petty little brand of coercion a really admirable glow.Lincoln, Roosevelt, Reagan. The list goes on and on.The problem with Obama, however, is that he has been awarded his halo even before he had the chance to effect anything, and be it just more pain and suffering. Methinks this creates a dangerous atmosphere with Obama being granted the privilege of fools right from the start. Obama invades [random Muslim country]? Must've been for the good cause. Obama raises taxes? It's about fair social change. Obama raped your daughter? She's almost as blessed as Mary, then.Scary guy.
I actually tried to debate an Obama supporter and all I got was fluff. The scary part is that he talks about a globally connected world, which I infer means needing someone to over see that global interconnection. Here is the conversation:

Really? You still don't get it?He has certain intangible things that just cannot be taught. I don't think he's just rocking the dems side, but politics in general.People get excited when he speaks, he has a charisma that people haven't seen in politics for awhile. His ability to inspire can bring people from all different backgrounds together. In the context of this politics of division that we have endured over the past decade or so...his message resonates very deeply for millions of Americans who have lost hope in this political system. Obama doesn't just represent himself and his politics. He is the representation of something totally different.He's young, with a global upbringing. He's Harvard educated, and yet his professional experience is lawyer and organizer for the poor, a university professor, and a relatively young stint as a politician. He represents a break from the past, a fresh of breath air in a culture of fear.That's the thing with Obama. And when you talk to many of his supporters, and new supporters. You can talk talk talk about issues. But it really doesn't mean *** to Americans who are used to empty promises from the establishment. Obama's really smart in his politics of hope. He wrote an entire book on Hope. That book basically highlights his whole entire politics. It's a clean break from the establishment, and gives an honest account of really bringing America together, no matter if you're Left or Right. Clinton and McCain represent the establishment. While Ron Paul is a little too polarizing to make a real difference, look at the polls.If you don't get it. Why not read "Audacity of Hope" to get a better picture of what he represents. Obama's message is like vinegar to the baking soda of the current American masses.
Out of curiosity do you support most of his policies? Health Care, Education, Economic, etc...? Or do you disagree with a few.I disagree with a few positions on Ron Paul, but I think the direction of a Ron Paul administration would do wonders to our country.

My brain almost shut down reading this emotive drivel. What's even more madenning is that after a few months when this charlatan is elected, only then will it become remotley fashionable for supporters to remotley consider thinking about anything he does critically, and that's through rose colored glasses as well.Politics need to die, frankly.

I feel your pain. I am still looking for an Obama supporter that can at least defend Obama's positions, as opposed to just talking about Hope and Change. I've had more success swaying Clinton suppoters towards considering a libertarian platform (the Ron Paul flavor of libertarianism). It's tough to dig through emotions to get to reason and rationality.
