Creating local and online Mises Circles

Does anyone have information on what constitutes a Mises Circle and how to organize one?

I am keen (if possible) to attend the one in Vancouver later this year, however that is an official LvMI event.  I'm talking about organizing online Mises Circle chats at scheduled times, and local Circles in coffee houses or other intimate venues.  Obviously we will be short a Ludwig Von Mises to lead it, but this might be a way to spread Austrian ideas and to create debate.

I did a forum search, but could not turn up a topic like this.  Any ideas, comments, guidance, criticisms etc would be appreciated.

Just do it. If you want to form a group to meet and discuss Austrian economics, form one. I am working to build one where I live, to meet in my house. So far I have 2 people, so I'm not going to plan events unti I get more people. For advertising, there are several things to consider. For an easy one, consider sending emails to local Ron Paul meetups. You can also create a meetup for it, or advertise on craiglist. Try putting up messages here - you never know. Also, you might contact your local LP, or taxpayer groups.

Thanks.  I was wondering if there was a specific format to a Mises Circle.  I'd like to emulate the original ones if possible.

Btw, I'm in Canada.  In my area, we did have a Canadian LP candidate run in the last election, so I might get lucky and find an austrian or two lurking about.

The catch is, I am a better organizer than economist.  Hence why some sort of guideline or format would be so very helpful!

It seemed to me like Paul had some support in Canada.  In my opinion, you don't need to seek out Austrians - just seek out people who might be interested, and Paul supporters can easily fit that bill, even in Canada.  Certainly see about sending a message to your local Canadian LP affiliate.

I'm not sure what you mean on a specific format.  There were some songs that the Miseskreis used to sing, but I'm not sure you want to go that far in recreating the circle.  I'd just do a book/paper club, honestly.  Try to keep it on Austrian economics and avoid "Well, I feel like..." political discussions.

Hey, I'm a student from Argentina and with a couple of friends started a group like (to study, share ideas, and debate within the austrian tradition) that just a few months ago, we did'nt called it a "Mises Circle" cause we didn't even knew that those existed, but nemed it "Austrian Circle" ( Circulo Austriaco). What we do is to arrange a meeting , we propouse something to read in advance and then we discuse the main points. To keep track of our meetings go to http://circuloaustriaco.blogspot.com , also continue the discusion over a yahoo list in which you could register from the page above. So far we are more than ten people and growing everyday. So i encourage you to begin, its an amazing experience to be able to spread the word. Thank and Good Luck.
