OSLO – President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples," the Norwegian Nobel Committee said, citing his outreach to the Muslim world and attempts to curb nuclear proliferation.

This is almost as good as when Henry Kissinger got it. Better yet, Al Gore! Ick!

Why is this surprising? They gave the Nobel Prize for Economics to Paul Krugman, and the awards are sponsored by the Swedish central bank.

I thought this was a joke, then I saw the Reuters article.

.....

"Keynesianomics is a Ponzi scheme."

"You are correct in that Capitalism does not help with poverty, because it eliminates poverty altogether..."

"That wonderful strawman:  greed."

Inequality bad. Zip it!Zip it!Zip it!

If Al Gore can win it, anyone can. Apparently the only qualifications now are the pursuit of socialist policies.

There might be a silver lining here. He may take it seriously and spend all his time running after world peace, thus distracting him from ripping us off.

Of course, he'll probably then get some quick reminders from people to get back to doing what he was elected for

I really don't get his appeal.

He has a loud voice, is an ethnic minority, gives good speeches and the previous administration was incompetent. Also, he presents simple solutions to problems already fed to people through MSM outlets, and uses words that naturally comfort, like "Hope" "Change" and "Rescue".

The race issue is a huge deal in America.

The republicans had a very bad administration and 2 terms, making Obama and the democrats look like manna from heaven.

Is this a joke in bad taste? Ever since Al Gore got his Nobel prize you don't even have to show any results to get the medal, just your colossal ego. What has Obama done? Has he signed some ground breaking treaty in the Middle East? Has he brokered some agreement banning nuclear weapons (including Israel's)? No, he promised, promised. The US are so desperate for an image change that they are resorting to these cheap tricks. And the European "allies" (or should I say "sycophants"?) are only too happy to oblige. This is pretty much the last gasp.

On a different note do not think that other areas of the Nobel prize are immune. When Albert Einstein brought forward his ground breaking Theory of Relativity the scientific community clamored to give him the Nobel. There was a problem though: he should have shared it with Paul Langevin, the French physicist. But there was a problem: Langevin had communist sympathies and was regarded in France as a "suspect" individual. So Einstein was given the Nobel prize for his work on optics and light. great but nowhere near as important as his other works.

Yes, it's time for the Dr Goebbels show!

Could you get his appeal as a Hollywood movie star? A Shakespearean actor, say? Tall, athletic, good speaking voice and vocabulary, pretty wife and cute little girls. Brad and Angie.

And black to boot. This is important because, insane as this may sound, people see an intelligent black person as a novelty. Minorities are proud of him, "Our man the President of the United States." Liberals are proud of him, "Look at the pet monkey we trained." Those crushed by forces beyond their control look up to him. "He is certainly a change, a black Prez, maybe he will bring change for the better."

That last is the key of course. Sadly, from his actions, I just see plenty more of the same.

It really is pathetic. Most presidents have a few "great ideas" that they push through the door in the first 6 months of their presidency. He's passed nothing. For all the talk of a "new hope" and "new america" and of him being an "intellectual" I'm sick.

It's a problem up here in Canada, too. "We don't want the US to have McCain as president, he'll declare war on Iran!" ... Today, it looks like Obama's administration is seriously considering war with Iran, and the Canadians are ok with it because it's Obama and not McCain. It's shallow and pathetic and makes my blood boil.

I can see right through him. He's nothing but an empty shell. In fact, I'm still not convinced that he isn't some sort of hologram. Are people really so stupid, that HOPECHANGEYESWECAN and a pretty speech fed entirely by a teleprompter can sway them?

For some reason, I am constantly picturing Obama's face in this DPRK video every time I hear the MSM drooling over him.

What is very sad, is that Obama is a mass murderer and torturer.
