Yes, I think we all know that Peter Schiff is going to run for Senate for Connecticut. But just today another candidate announced:

Linda McMahon. WWE CEO.

Yes, we had Jesse Ventura as a governor. And to be fair: Jesse's pretty decent.  But is Linda doing this to perhaps steal Peter's thunder or guarantee Dodd's re-election?

Schiff doesn't stand a chance against McMahon.  I think that is a closed primary.  If it is, then it is a small pool of registered establishment republicans voting.  Schiff might have been able to destroy the R field with fund raising, but now that McMahon is in, it will be a dogfight.

Peter's problem is that he hasn't made any republican friends, and isn't very slick politically.

There is no way Dodd will lose.  It is one of those north eastern states that are typically identified with Peoples Republic of in front of the name.  I even doubt Schiff can win the primary.  Think New Hampshire where the Ron Paul crowd spent a lot of money and effort to come up short as the big government healthcare, regulate baseball steriod use, warmonger for victory McCain and Mr Romney Care fought over the majority of the delegates from the state.

Something about bodybuilders/ wrestlers and politics mixes I suppose.  To this day I think the movie "The Predator" had some deep political message I just didn't get.  It had two governors and the dude who beat Rocky;  Sylvester Stalone was THEN in a sci-fi movie called "demolition man", where he mentiona Arnold was going to have a political career in the US.  Coincidence?

I don't think Schiff can beat McMahon.  My guess is she comes packaged with a lot of populist appeal (woman, celeb, etc) that he will not be able to overcome, let alone compete w/o party endorsment and the loads of cash she has.  Hopefully she will be more tolerable than most Republicans, somehow I doubt it though, she is a celebrity to be used for a chance to win and then be used for party line voting like  Caroline Kennedy was a few months back.

Let us look then and see, how they manage their concerns- they for whose cause we are to labor, devote ourselves, and grow enthusiastic

You can always hope that the McMahon family will bring the establishment in the same sort of disrepute as big-money wrestling is... Big Smile

Yes, it's time for the Dr Goebbels show!

Schiff atl east has much more face time than Linda. He is more well known nationally which helps a tad in a state election. I still see him more now than her or others.

LS is right in his political savvy. I could destroy Schiff in debates even on his own turf with his background. He can be tongue tied easily even though he knows the facts well. He doesnt present a case well. This is why lawyers fare better then finance types in politics. He needs to be salesman not a supplier.

Thats really sad. Having Schiff in there would be a nice bonus for us.

As a citizen living in CT myself I can tell you that a lot of people here hate Dodd. The real problem is that our Republican Governor's have been pretty powerfucked this past term, so all the liberals here don't trust Republicans anymore, especially after Bush.

You don't have to be right to win a debate. If that were the case everyone would lose in pretty much every presidential debate in history. It's like how people can watch someone like Naomi Klein on TV and think she was convincing. I wish Schiff the best, but its more important to look good in a debate than bring a better argument(see BiIl O'Reilly). It's like in the 1960 presidential debate when TV viewers thought JFK won and radio listeners thought Nixon won. Unfortunately for Schiff, nobody listens to them on radio anymore.

He stumbles a bit on his words. He is not a debater. He has great arguments but cannot argue them. When he was on the ED SHOW and the host pretty much yelled at him, he looked like a nice guy but you didn't get all he wanted to say. Schiff is hard for people to take seriously, he has no political speak.

Thats what I mean. Bill O'Reilly is great example Scott. I honestly think Ron Paul has great fame because he comes across as the nice old man who really seems to care. Ive heard that from many people, especially women who like him.

Not to mention his father is in prison for refusing to pay income taxes. He will be annihilated by the America First crowd because of his father, and because of Euro-Pac investing money outside of the country.

I've always thought pretty much the exact opposite of that. Schiff, to me, is an incredible public speaker; very sharp and really fluid. In fact, he's who originally really got me into Austrian economics. I used to be a drone and I watched CNBC just hear Kudlow and other right-leaning talking heads and I'd delight in every word they spoke. Whenever Schiff was on, though, it was usually every man vs him, and he'd take them all on with such ease while providing really insightful, solid arguments.  I still do daily searches on YouTube for his most recent appearances just because I enjoy hearing him speak so much. (If I just type the letter 'p' in my address bar, the following is the first result Firefox displays: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=videos&search_query="peter+schiff"&search_sort=video_date_uploaded ) Stick out tongue

When given chances to speak he can put it out there. Dealing with a media political blitz on him and rubbings with politicons are much different then jabbings on CNBC.

I hope the best for him. In a one on one w/ Dodd, he would be fine. IDk about McMahon.

Ive never gotten to hear him speak on climate, welfare etc... other than economics and smidge of foreign policy.

Any coverage of this?

I think that anyone who feels threatened by him will just smear him to the hilt as anti-American. Some of the mainstream financial shows have already done some damage.

Actually, I think this is one of his strengths. He is good at debating. He uses really simple examples that ppl can relate to. And it doesn't really matter if he gets tongue tied once in a while. He keeps his composure and answers politely. He keeps his cool and makes his opponents sound like morons. Plus he has a great track record, while his mainstream opponents have a pretty poor one.

Liberals don't mean to destroy people. They just do.
