Republican Establishment Fascism

The current Republican Party establishment has just proved their fascism during the RNC. While their rhetoric may seem to support limited government, individual responsibility, and "democracy" their actions during the convention prove otherwise.

From the New Oxford Dictionary: "Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one national or ethnic group, a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach."

How many "Country First" signs did you see? The signs engulfed the whole convention.

A contempt for democracy
I am still awestricken by the RNC passing a motion to make a non-unanimous vote unanimous. I conjecture the motion was made to show unity behind a single candidate namely McCain. Combine that with not even counting votes correctly. But that just proves the contempt for democratic votes.

An insistence on obedience to a powerful leader
Dissent was not tolerated. Opposing opinions were shut off from being heard. Ron Paul supporters were cut off at the mic. Not only that, but their signs and pamphlets were confiscated.

A strong demagogic approach
A demagoguge takes what is popular, and uses the popularity rather than rational arguement. Take another a look at McCain's NEW campaign slogan, Country First: Reform, Prosperity, Peace. The word change is all the rage these days thanks to Obama. Reform comes via Obama's popular Change message. Prosperity, of course we want to be prosperious, but does McCain's platform actually yield prosperity? For who? The war in Iraq has become wildly unpopular, hence the term Peace.

This is not to say that ALL Republicans are fascist, just that the leadership of the organization appear to hold to the definiation of fascism. Which, IMHO, is still a pretty big deal.
