It was an option in the Debian Etch installer so I didn't need to configure anything, it was setup automatically.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Of course, there are also other ways to do this. I haven't looked at TrueCrypt, yet.&lt;/p&gt;

I run Linux and so am minimally concerned about trojans stealing data, but if my laptop were stolen there are personally and commercially sensitive data that I would want to be unreadable.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I would prefer to encrypt the entire drive (root partition included) and have found mixed reports as to the possibility of this, so I would like to hear the straight story on harddisk encryption.&lt;/p&gt;
