Publishers wouldn't jump at these tomes of mediocrity were there not to be a fat cash reward at the register. Apparently, this is what fuels Americans now. Sad that literature should come to this. And none of these people are even writers, most specifically Sarah Palin. I'm not even convinced she can write a complete sentence because I've yet to hear her speak one. And I'm a conservative - or rather, a traditionalist.

From http://tinyurl.com/5gbnh7

Excerpts:

-------------------------------------------------------

"About 1982, I was talking to a GM rep. He said they expected a 30 percent major failure rate in that model year. I said, 'You mean, if I have 1000 cars, 300 will need an engine or transmission?' He said yes, and I believed him. They knew they had huge quality problems, but viewed them as a cost of doing business."

"Then came the mid-80's. Talk about losing your way! We had transmissions that would not shift; when you take them apart, you couldn't find any viable failure. The reps told of being in restaurants wearing the GM lapel pin and asked if they worked for General Motors. They'd respond that they worked for General Mills."

re: Rethinking the Auto Bailout

Unfortunately the Federal Government cannot repay this theft. The money has been consumed and destroyed. Repayment would have to be made by stealing from more people; thus it would be unjust. My future grandchildren didn't steal from the auto companies in 1977.

In addition, there is no "government"; just individuals doing wrong things. Justice would be for the responsible people to repay their portion of the wrong. You could never track all of that down. How much guilt belongs to each of the last seven Presidents? How much to each Congressman of the last thirty Congresses? How much to each voter?

And who are the victims? The auto companies? The stockholders? The auto industry employees? Multiply that by all the points in time affected, as it would be an ever-shifting group.

My religion proclaims "Let him who stole steal no longer; but rather let him labor, performing with his own hands what is good, in order that he may have something to share with him who has need." (Ephesians 4:28) I think this is in recognition of the fact that a thief very often may not be able to give back what he stole. If he has it, then yes, he should give it back. If not, he cannot fix the wrong he did; he should do the best he can.

The thief cannot give back, here. The federal government is bankrupt. It should declare bankruptcy and immediately have its assets liquidated.

Finally, the type of justice you are talking about has to be sought in a court, not by legislative fiat. If a court (a real court, not a state court) can piece together a case to show some certifiable debt and award a judgment against the government, it could be paid out of those assets in the manner standard for bankruptcies.

I've had some bad times. I failed out of one semester a few years back.. it was spring 04 I think when I tried to start my own business. then again the fall of 06 when the Army wouldn't let me out of training because I had gotten hurt, they wouldn't even let me go into town to withdraw from my classes, and I was unable to get that semester forgiven. and then the fall of '07 I didn't bring up my gpa, and so I was suspended. my grandmother was real sick early on in the semester which put me behind, and my mother was real sick towards the end of the semester and that did me in...

It sounds like a lot of cop outs. And when it comes right down to it, it is in a way, but mostly its just the facts of what happened, the rest of my transcript is pretty good B's and C's and a few A's... the fact of the matter is I don't give a crap about the leftist professors and their rhetoric, and I didn't go to school much anyway. I guess what I'm saying is that for a group like the Mises Institute, its awfully odd they would take into account the judgment of statist, blubber huggers.

Google has already built its "do no evil" image among web-masters through a lot of giveaways (especially in IT, where they have a lot of student programs and grants throughout the world: Google Summer of Code, Google Code Jam, Google Anita Borg Scholarship, Google Pizza Ambassador, and they sponsor all kinds of projects and events).

Microsoft, on the other hand, it seems, has decided a more direct approach, and betting on the actual users. Has they gain market-share in the search field, I'm sure they'll try to beat Google Ad-sense... Google has made some billion dollars every year, so clearly there is place for competition which will be benefit everyone involved, from the users to IT professionals. :)

re: The Emaculate state

I see no problem with the system stated as such except for outgoing circumstances such as the poorer man who works the nights. Lets say.. one poorer man cant work the nights.. because he in turn works the day in the fields tilling and taking care of the food. ok.. some would say his portion is helping the farmer who makes the food.

HOWEVER this falls under the pretences of TRUE COMMUNISM in which is actually everyone working freely together for the soul benefit of the society.

however this cannot be accomplished due to the fact of ETHICS itself. although people have the same ethics in the fact they want to be happy and protected and all that other good stuff it still boils down to one problem. Greed.

Greed is the folley of man kind. money is our undoing. as are posessions. people see something they want and cant have it...they take it in the only way the can (sometimes...not always.) these are our theives alredy falling into the equation. what equation? the HUMAN equation.

Huiman beings by nature by themselves are very intelligent have a quick learning curve and respond highly adaptively to their surroundings, though once luxuries (unnecessary thing) are thrown in is where everything falls apart in the human equation. since every person is different and responds in a different manner to different situations through different life experiences, this causes an imbalance in human train of thought and messes with the mathematical plugging and evaluation of the human equation.

so once this force run by man seems to work at the beginning it often tends to fall apart a short time thereafter with the citizens we place our trust in (who dont make as much money or what not)begin to fall to their inner desires. this is not a certainty in all areas but sooner or later it WILL happen somewhere due to the random nature of peoples actions (random not as in undecided or thought out but random in the nature they were brought up by natural events.)

anyway.. good article man.. i enjoyed it. keep up the good work.

When we talk about freedom of employment, I can seek a job with another employer while continuing to live in my house, with my family, and near my friends. I am not forced to relocate to another geographical area and abandon my private property in order to change employer.

However, when we talk of relocating to another country, I am forced to sever my ties with all my friends and family, or take those who want to go with me. This is certainly not fair. Especially when you consider that I have to sell my private property, simply because it is within the borders of an illegitimate country. You seem to think that relocating to foreign countries is as easy as changing jobs.

Besides, we have seen how Germany is now spying on Swiss and Lichtenstein tax havens, and I bet you other countries do the same all the time. We already know the US government is no longer restricted by the constitution and can arrest anyone they want without habeas corpus. There is no freedom in this, so your analysis is deeply flawed.
